Medical Treatments:Skin Cancer: It is now estimated that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer at some point during their lives. The most common forms of skin cancer are Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma. Dr. Salob's experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center provided her with a unique perspective on the importance of early detection and prompt treatment of skin cancer. Dr. Salob is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of common and unusual forms of skin cancer. All forms of skin cancer are treated with the most current surgical techniques. Acne: Acne isn't just a problem for teenagers. Adult acne is on the rise. Dr. Salob offers patients the latest in-office skin care treatments and chemical peels. In addition, she customizes a skin care routine designed to address all aspects of a patient's acne. Photodynamic therapy is now available in our office. It is an exciting new addition to standard acne treatments. The treatment both kills the P. acnes bacteria in the pores that are involved in the development of pimples and cysts, and inhibits sebaceous gland activity. In conjunction with a skin care program of products selected for your individual needs, photodynamic therapy can be a useful addition to acne treatments. Treatments are administered every other week, and a series of 4-5 treatments is recommended for optimal results. Rosacea: Rosacea is a chronic condition and its cause is still unknown. Although there is currently no cure for rosacea, newer treatments and medication can bring it under control. The Starlux laser system can effectively treat the diffuse redness and small veins (telangiectasias) common in rosacea. Rashes: There are many conditions that can cause inflammation of the skin, such as eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis and allergic reactions. A careful history, evaluation, and further testing if necessary will lead to a diagnosis. Excellent topical products are available to effectively treat these conditions. We now offer patch testing in the office for patients with dermatitis that might be due to an allergic reaction to a particular ingredient. Infections: Ringworm, athlete's foot, nail fungus, impetigo and herpes are examples of common infections that can afflict the skin. Prompt evaluation is important in order to initiate treatment and prevent spread. Removal of benign growths: Benign growths, such as moles, skin tags and keratoses can be easily removed, often with minimal scarring.
